Quality of Life Update

So, when I published my last entry, I knew I may get some backlash and hesitated to put it out there.  I have gotten a few comments, so I wanted to clarify a few things.  One thing with writing something for all the world to see is that it is different than having a one on one conversation.  Things can get misinterpreted with written words, you're not able to hear tone in written words.  My intent with the last post was about what we consider improvement in quality of life to be, it wasn't really about the airport issue.  That was just to give some background about where the comment came from.  I am always evolving in who I am as a person and quite a few years ago Sarah and I had different idea of what "quality of life" looked like for us.  And, we are still a work in progress as individuals and as a family.

I don't believe that people who are for the airport aren't doing God's work.  I know there are many good people who support the airport and probably supported us in our first adoption.  I know they support our local churches, The Pella Food Shelf, Compassion, World Vision, etc.  They help people locally and globally.  We have friends who are on the other side of the issue and I love them for who they are and I will not let the airport cause any issues in our friendship.  People are more important to me than things.

And, this is a daily struggle for me, too.  I have to examine if something is really improving my "quality of life".  I love a good guitar!

  1. Ha ha! Love it! Thanks for the clarification! And yes, the hazards of blogging are that it is a monologue and not a dialogue. I am glad to hear that you are not letting the airport issue get in the way of your friendships. For the record, I am riding the fence on this one. I can see both sides and am having a hard time figuring out what I really think of all of it. But as for you choosing to build the Kingdom through adoption, I think that is awesome and it is something I wholeheartedly support! The big choices are sometimes much easier than the little ones! A topic certainly worth discussing!!
